From
Fat to Bones to Chubster
Hi there,
I’m Alex. I’m a 22-year-old full-time
student at SFU. As you can see from my pictures,
I am definitely not the most muscular and
defined guy around. However, it was worse
before. I was always a chubby kid growing up.
All through elementary, junior high and high
school I was overweight. I grew up with the
funny fat guy nicknames of “blimp” and
“chubby chubby choo choo train.” However, I
didn’t show people that they affected me. I
laughed it off and made fun of myself to make
them laugh. I guess that kind of made me the
“cool” fat guy. I was always into sports and
was definitely the fastest and most agile fat
guy around. My biggest problem back then was my
fascination for junk food. I pigged out all day,
everyday and it showed.
So
when does the story turn? Well, in my first year
at SFU, my girlfriend and I decided to try to
lose some weight (she’s in this challenge
too). We didn’t really tell anyone what we
were up to; we just were in it on our own. We
had no idea what we were doing; we just knew we
had to start eating better and to exercise more.
So we axed the junk food and started running. We
ran and ran and to make a long story short, we
lost some weight. I went from around 220 pounds
to a skin and bones weight of 165 pounds. It was
cool at the time to be really skinny, but after
awhile people started making fun of me because I
was too skinny.
So
I then decided to try to get more muscular. I
thought all I had to do was sign up at a gym and
lift some weights and sooner or later I’d be a
stud. However, 2 years of struggling and here I
am. Almost back at where I started. I know my
main problem is still the diet thing. I lift
weights regularly and am quite committed to it
as well. I’ve just hit a huge plateau and need
help to get over the hump and finally reach the
body I’ve been searching for. I would like to
lose some body fat and get some more definition
in my muscles. I entered this challenge to get
some clear direction on what I should do to
finally end the era of the “chubster” and
hopefully open the door for the new leaner
muscular me to walk through. So cheer me on and
watch the pictures every month change (in a good
way lets hope)!
